Could he be out of this World?

From the start of the sales’ season, over half a dozen sales ago and in excess of a dozen sales’ days  to date, we’ve been looking to add to our yearling roster, a quality colt for Michael Bell to train for us, however, the stars hadn’t aligned, thus far.

Michael, as you know, is a fabulous Derby, Oaks, Nunthorpe and Ascot Gold Cup winning trainer, you can send him any type of horse and he'll deliver, however, we’re always keen to send him a quality, strong, robust 2yo type, who can excel on the festival stage as a 2yo - recent examples of which are MAYLANDSEA (2nd in the Queen Mary & 3rd in the Cornwallis), RED ZONE HERO (festival winning 2yo - sold to Hong Kong for almost 4 times his purchase price) & GOLD STAR HERO (winning 2yo, who led them a merry dance at listed level last time - he’s a black type performer, no doubt - to name but three.

Michael put it to us, that he’d bought one of the most attractive colts of the entire sales’ season, on spec for 82,000gns, at the Tattersalls Somerville Sale in early September and that since the sale he’d been particularly impressed by the horse’s physique and temperament and that he’d thoroughly recommend him.

We went to see him at the National Stud, where Michael had sent him post sale and we couldn’t help thinking that maybe he was one that we’d missed and that he was one that we should seriously consider - our initial impression was ‘what a beautiful stamp of a horse’ and that ‘his movement was to die for’.

Apparently, the head of nominations at Darley has gone on record as saying that this colt is the nicest Space Blues yearling she has seen all sales’ season. It’s fair to say that some fair judges have mooted this colt is one we should seriously consider adding to our yearling roster, particularly as we’re looking for a high class, festival 2-year-old, possibly a Royal Ascot sort for 2025. If he’s anywhere near as talented as his illustrious father, then we’ll be in good shape. We’ve taken the plunge.

82,000gns is no small amount of money - however, were he to prove anything akin to Maylandsea, Gold Star Hero or Red Zone Hero, he’ll look particularly well bought - almost cheap, if you like, and don't forget he is eligible for the £100,000 Somerville Auction Stakes as well as the ever popular £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes.

He’s very much a Maytime 2yo debutant, with a clear run of things, yet he has the size and physique to progress as the season opens up and plying his trade on Saturdays and at festivals would appear well with within his compass.

Hopefully, our Blues flag will be flying high with this colt in 2025.

Training Update (December): Richard is very happy with this racey son of Space Blues. He is a beautiful mover, has now completed his conditioning work and is now cantering upsides on the All Weather gallops.

(We currently experiencing issues with YouTube, hopefully back working normal again tomorrow)
