Winner 6 of 2025: VENTURA DREAM, trained by Archie Watson and ridden by Charlie Bishop. ‘Weekly Free Bets With BetMGM Extra Handicap’ over 1m at Southwell.
We were looking forward to seeing Ventura Dream back out at Southwell yesterday afternoon, a track we were hopeful it would play to his strength, especially with the step up in trip for the first time. The now gelding with his beautiful markings, is an eye-catcher in the paddock and caught the eye of his followers by breaking smartly and taking the lead in the 8-runner contest. Turning for home, Charlie asked the son of Earthlight to quicken, and our gelding responded well and kept on pulling clear with the runner-up beaten by ¾ lengths and another 5 lengths to the third placed horse ahead of the rest of the field. A smart success, after a great fron-running ride, with room to progress.

Timeform commented on his maiden victory (t74): "Upped in trip for handicap debut, proved a different proposition after 7 weeks off (gelded), this far more in keeping with his pedigree and price tag; led, quickened entering straight, tackled final 1f, always holding on as front pair drew right away; capable of better still."
A delighted Charlie Bishop post-race: "That was a good effort. He jumped well and I was pretty happy to sit handy, but when nobody really wanted to take a lead, I let him use himself and stride on to make the running myself. To be fair to him, he did it the hard way, being out on his own all the way. But I was able to kick early when turning for home to stretch the rest of the field. He kept on well and put his head down when it mattered, to win easy in the end. Well done everyone involved."
