The Dragon Slayer

From the clouds ....
A run that left many owners and syndicate manager Tom speechless. On a beautiful autumnal day at HQ, the Dragon King rattles home late in the valuable Tattersalls Auction Stakes after he looked in trouble from an early stage, having fluffed the start and became detached. But he caught up 2f out, stayed on powerfully inside the final furlong, and came to slay down the opposition in the dying strides to take the spoils and leave the favourite in 2nd place.
Plenty of owners were in attendance and enjoyed not only a glass of Champagne in the Royal Box, but also a fantastic hospitality in the beautifully located Frankel bar, next to the parade ring, provided by Tattersalls. Our 17th 2-year-old winner of the season, more than any other syndicate this year, 'The Dragon King' - was purchased for just 21.000gns. The son of Invincible Army is now a 3-time winner has earned £98,521 in prize money for his owners, and took Middleham Park Racing past 1.7 Million Pound prize money.

Timeform rated his victory with a 95, saying: "Ran his best race, producing a storming finishing effort, even if the race was tailor-made for a horse coming from well off the pace, such an outcome looking unlikely for at least 4f; slowly into stride, soon detached and off bridle, still in last place 2f out, headway over 1f out, found plenty to lead final 50 yds."
A rather speechless William Buick spoke to Racing TV after the race:
Syndicate Manager Tom Palin: "I'm speechless, lost for words really. Struggling to comprehend how he gave the pack such a lead and to come home with a rattle to take the spoils so late on. He’s a tough horse, our first two year old runner and winner of the season and provided one of the most memorable moments of the year coming home like a train to pick up this valuable prize for his owners. Many thanks to Clive and his team at home, who had him in peak condition all year. What a fantastic servant he has been for the syndicate, he was purchaesd for just 21.000gns, he's now a 3-time winner and has earned £98,521 in prize money for his owners. It's the stuff that dreams are made of."
