Georginio scores
Tue 03 Dec 2024
Winner 92 of 2024: GEORGINIO, trained by Archie Watson and ridden by Laura Coughlan. ‘Weekly Free Bets With BetMGM Extra Nursery Handicap’ over 1m11/2f at Wolverhampton.
Georginio wasn’t only our first runner back after a week with no flat racing in the UK, but more importantly – he took us straight back into the winner’s enclosure. After a very encouraging third last time out, our good-looking, and progressive son of Sergei Prokofiev, who was always going to improve with the step up in trip, was drawn 4 of 11. He jumped well and the pair was determined to make the most of their low draw. After some very strong fractions in the early stages of the race, he wasn’t given much peace on the front end, Laura was still able to dispute the lead and dictate the race to her advantage from halfway. Turning for home, he showed a brilliant attitude to fend off all challenges to win by a short head. Our 21st 2-year-old winner of the year !

Timeform rated his maiden victory with a t72, saying: "Upped further in trip, built on previous effort to get off the mark, able to set the pace but showing a good attitude in the closing stages; soon led, kicked on over 1f out, tackled final 1f, held on gamely."
Georginio's jockey Laura Coughlan, was full of praise during her Sky Sports Racing Interview: "Great victory! He stays very well, but was also just very tough today. I ride him a lot at home, and we knew if we make use of his stamina, it could work out really well for us. A great result, delighted for his owners. He has been a very progressive horse, who just keeps improving with the step up in trip. Well done to everyone"

Syndicate Manager Tom Palin after the race: "What a mighty fine victory from Georginio, who was very tough today. But credits also go to Laura, who I thought gave him an excellent ride. She was insistent to make good use of that advantageous draw, and despite going plenty hard in the early stages, she did a fantastic job taking the sting out of the race in the back straight, and really steading the race down to give him a breather before turning for home. She always kept him in a nice rhythm, was eager to keep him rolling early on and what a fantastic attitude from our son of Sergei Profokiev, who was very willing today and battled all the way to the line. Huge well done to his owners."
