Winner 5 of 2025: PRINCE OF PILLO, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Jack Garritty. '£30 In Free Bets With BetUK Handicap’ over 6f in Lingfield.
After some lengthy time off, the excitement and anticipation were huge to see Prince of Pillo back on a racetrack. He looked nice and relaxed behind the stalls, with Jack Garritty commenting afterwards, was a big asset to his success today. He jumped well, but with plenty of pace in the early stages, Jack managed to settle our gelding in a first-time hood, at the rear of the field. He had the race run to suit, but Prince of Pillo picked up strongly and won impressively by 2 lengths. An easy victory in the end, and huge effort after 292 days off.

Timeform rated his victory with a p101+, saying: "A listed winner as a juvenile, has dropped down the weights in a couple of light campaigns since and bounced back to best fitted with a hood for the first time after 10 months off; dwelt, held up, shaken up over 2f out, forced to switch over 1f out, quickened to lead entering final 100 yds, drew clear; he could be an interesting one for some of the better handicaps back on turf."

He did it very, very well in the end, and I am just delighted for his owners, who stuck by him, you were overdue a change of fortune - fantastic to see him win after his lenghty time off. The jockeys up front kindly took it in turns to take on the pace and kept injecting a little bit more throughout, in which was already a strong run race. But as it turned out, our tactics worked out pretty well, and after the pace collapsed he had the race at his mercy. By no means am I taking anything away from Prince of Pillo, it still takes a big effort and and the right attitude to do what he did, and especially to do so, as well as he did. A fantastic Sunday afternoon in the office. Well done everyone!"
