We will be hosting our annual 2 year-old parade and viewing morning on Sunday 19th January at Richie McGrath’s Pre-Training Yard in Middleham, North Yorkshire. To book your place, and party size, please email Kat or Jamie  kat.middlehamparkracing@gmail.comjamie.middlehamparkracing@gmail.comWe will then forward you further details in due course. We want to see as many of you there as possible!

In Clive we trust!

Clive Cox is, arguably, the shrewdest operator/worker of the Doncaster, Goffs UK sale in recent times - sourcing horses such as Harry’s Angel, Golden Horde, Supremacy & Diligent Harry - all household names and several, stallions now, in their own right.
We’ve shared plenty of success this season with our Clive Cox charges, notably, the highly successful and lucrative 21,000gns 2yo THE DRAGON KING - hopefully there’s plenty more to come in his career for us too.

A 2yo Pedigree To Die For

Every aspect of this superb athlete’s pedigree, screams 2yo speed, everything that Clive and his team, and, to an extent, ourselves have become renowned for. However, our colt has some great size and physique about him (most sons and daughters of Sergei Prokofiev do) so he’s definitely not just a one trick 2yo pony, rest assured.

16 individual winners in 2024 make Sergei Prokofiev joint leading sire in GB / IRE, with ARIZONE BLAZE having been his first winner in 2024, who keeps getting better with two Group / Grade 1 placings; 3rd in the Phoenix Stakes and 2nd in the BREEDERS CUP JUVENILE TURF SPRINT.

Having sourced, from this sale last year DILIGENTLY for £100,000, Clive trained him to win the £308,000 first prize, in winning the inaugural running of the Harry’s Half Million Sales race, where only graduates of this week’s sale qualify for the 2025 renewal. That’s a fabulous return of funds and we’ll be targeting next year’s renewal in particular with this stunning colt.

Rest assured, however, that will not be his sole target, we’d hope to take in several other quality races either side of the Harry’s Half Million. It’d be fabulous to think that this colt could perform sufficiently well on the track too, to follow in some of Clive’s illustrious stallion making acquisitions and performances and secure a place at stud himself. Ourselves at Middleham Park, we’ve also secured, from this sale, 2 Stallions and a Champion - namely Shouldvebeenaring for £40,000, Kool Kompany for £40,000 and Toormore for £36,000 respectively.

£85,000 is far from a meagre spend, to secure this colt’s services, especially when you add on sales’ commissions etc that we’ve factored in, however, this colt could very easily be lining up for the £500,000+ sales race in just 11 months’ time alongside all the other opportunities that his pedigree, physique and CV could afford him throughout 2025 and beyond. It’d be of little surprise were he to line up at Royal Ascot or a July Stakes at Newmarket, and who knows, could he end up a stallion himself? - it wouldn’t be a huge surprise, he’s in good company - be the discussion trainer or owner orientated.

We’d estimate he’d be a May debutant 2025 and we’ll take it from there - with Clive’s CV and Clive at the helm, who knows where the journey will take us?

The Racing Post spoke to our very own Tim Palin prior to the sale, read here what he had to say:

‘The harder you work this sale, the luckier you get’ – buyers bid to keep the romance alive as sales season rolls into Doncaster | Racing Post

Training Update (December):  Richie reports that he has just started to canter upsides steadily and in a small group. It has been a natural progression for him and he has taken it in his stride. A lovley straight forward colt.
