The next Mecca's Angel?

Karl Burke - The Master Trainer of 2yo’s

With a 2yo record in 2024 alone of 50 domestic winners and over £1 million in prize money, including 2 Royal Ascot 2yo winners, where better to send this fantastically well-bred Dark Angel filly?

We’ve probably not purchased a better-bred horse all sales season - just take a look at the abundance of serious black-type Group performers amongst her immediate family, and how worldwide the winners on the catalogue page seem to be. Furthermore, add into the mix, Dark Angel who has established himself as a world-class stallion, siring the likes of CHARYN, BATTAASH, HARRY ANGEL, as well as our own LILY’S ANGEL, GOT TO LOVE A GREY & REALTRA to name but a few…… His list of top-class performers just goes on and on and shows no signs of stopping.

It wasn’t just an outstanding pedigree that we fell for, however, we simply couldn’t find a better model on Tattersalls’ Park Paddocks grounds, all week - she’s every inch a racehorse, great size, great physique and sensationally loose moving with a fantastic action and step to her - “one of the walks of the week” we thought!

All being well, she’ll be very much seen to good effect as a 2yo, hopefully coming to hand in May, potentially over 5f but more likely over 6f when those 2yo races open up, just ahead of Royal Ascot. Eventually, you’d like to think that she’ll stay a mile as a 3yo and excel at around that sort of distance. It would be a surprise, were she to remain over sprint distances for her entire career.

Could she make up into a Moyglare or a 1000 Guineas filly, in time, who knows ? Black type Dark Angel fillies retain a super, huge, residual value for the paddocks following their racing career, so a purchase price of 85,000gns could look money well spent, as her CV develops.

She qualifies for a €10,000 'IRE' bonus, should she win a qualifying maiden or novice Stakes race in 2025. You can read more about how it works, here: https://www.itm.ie/Buying/Sales-Incentives/IRE-Incentive

Training Updates (December): She is doing really well and Richie is more than happy with her progress. She has worked through the breaking in stages and is now ridden and has ventured to the gallops. She is currently trotting & cantering up the AWT - Watch a recent video of her below:

Watch a video of her trotting below ( We currently experience issues with YouTube, hopefully back working normal again tomorrow)
