The Derby Dream Starts Here!
Traditionally, John Gosden, the six times Champion trainer, has been renowned for being able to train any type or generation of top-class racehorses - he’s won pretty much every race there is worth winning in his long and illustrious career and little has changed since teaming up with his son Thady on the training licence, other than a shared workload.
However, if you were to even attempt to pigeonhole their operation, it’d be to assert, that the masters of Clarehaven particularly excel with progressive horses i.e. horses with whom you can afford a little time and patience and whose careers build to a crescendo in their 3-year-old season. So, where better to send this fabulously bred, and immaculately physiqued individual than to John and Thady’s tutelage?
It’s impossible to predict the future with any accuracy, however we’d envisage this stunning colt, (sourced by ace agent Jeremy Brummitt from the German BBAG Sales for a very meagre €40,000 - we’d budgeted for a fair bit more to secure this colt’s services - don’t tell the vendor!) racing conservatively as a 2yo - two or three runs - with several more than that anticipated as he matures and peaks through his 3-year-old year.
He’s bred to be a high-class middle-distance horse, however, there are none of those in the 2-year-old programme, and he’s most likely the sort to rise considerably in asset value as his career progresses.
His syndicate members may vote to sell him at the end of his 3yo career, but just as likely that they grow to love him and be keen to keep him on to either ply his trade on the Flat as a 4-year-old or to Exeter on the jumps fray - it’s a decision for the syndicate, at the time, taking on board the advice of the trainer(s).
A super exciting opportunity to join a syndicate governed by one of the most successful trainers of all time, alongside a fabulously bred thoroughbred. He hails from a high-class black-type family, by the Group 1 producing sire INTELLO, who ranks as one of the best in France in the proven sires’ division, with a ratio of 10,6% with his progeny gaining blacktype per runner, and has forged a reputation as a very solid stallion and one recognised as a safe bet within breeders.
The dream would be, if he were to prove good enough, to contest The Epsom Derby 2026 - he’s in the perfect spot if he’s good enough.
Training Update (25th September): Richie reports that he has settled in nicely, and enjoying his daily exercise. He is already long reining around the farm, in the arena and through the stalls along with lunging in open spaces. Find videos & regular updates of him below.
