Starman ex Lake Louise filly
Race entries
We thought she was the nicest filly in the sale!
There’s often some great value to be had with first-season sires, like Starman - we jumped aboard the Havana Grey train in his inaugural year of runners, and both he, and we, haven’t looked back since. What particularly attracts us about first-season sires, is when you identify an individual who is well above the average specimen for the sire concerned, and we’d like to think we’ve hit on here, with this stunning filly. A combination of her generous physique, more than matching plenty of the colts on offer, both in this sale and by the sire, and her exceptional action/movement. We couldn’t find a better-moving individual in the entire sale and she was very much our nap of all the fillies present, on-site.
Her pedigree is full of class too, her mare has already produced the 110 RPR-rated Mr Wagyu, whose career earnings exceeded £319,000, across his 15 racecourse wins. Furthermore, the mare has produced the Hong Kong performer HOLY LAKE, who, on Hong Kong ratings is still improving and on a rating of 86 currently - 86 on Hong Kong ratings equates to around 106 over here. So, this filly’s dam is far from a one-hit wonder, in fact, she’s, effectively, produced two horses, running to, in excess of, 100 from her three progeny to race.
€42,000 gives us a real chance of unearthing a superstar and she qualifies for the £250,000 Weatherby’s Super Sprint which we won in 2022 with Eddie’s Boy, Eddie's Boy walks away with Super Sprint as revellers pack in for Craig David | Racing Post. She even qualifies for Band C & D races so we can target those races with large added prize money. The fixture book for this year included a significant number of restricted maiden and novice events with up to £40,000 on offer.
We’d hope, assuming she can emulate the 100-rating prowess of her siblings and that she’ll be competing in BLACK TYPE races, either side of, and potentially including the Royal Ascot festivals 2025 & 2026. Where better to send any 2yo, especially a sharp and precocious 2yo filly, than the master of Spigot Lodge, Middleham? - Karl Burke - he’s arguably established himself as the leading trainer in the north of quality individuals.
You can be rest assured that this filly will be in the very safest/best of hands and we look forward to seeing her race entries going in, in the Spring. Another fantastic bonus, she qualifies for a €10,000 'IRE' bonus, should she win a qualifying maiden or novice Stakes race in 2025. Wildly exciting - out of a proven dam and by, possibly, the best value for money first season sire in the business, hailing from the stallion production line that is Tally Ho Stud.
Training Update (November): Richie is very happy with how she has settled in. She is now lunging and long reining around the farm, as well as getting to know the routine with a rider too.
Watch an interesting video of how careful and slowly our yearlings are introduced to their riders:
