Half - brother to our very own DEAR MY FRIEND and 101 rated Pink Carnation

SINCE ARRIVING AT RICHARD HANNON’S, HE HAS NOT BEEN SEEN TO ‘weave’ AT ALL.

Originally purchased from Book 3 by Adrian Wintle Racing, for 30,000gns (we were the underbidders) he was returned because he was subsequently identified as “a weaver” which is a recognised vice under the terms and conditions of sale. We’ve had plenty of horses recognised as “weavers” in the past, and, in our opinion, it is of little consequence to a horse’s performance - it merely means that they are more active in their box than the norm. Given we were the underbidder, we were approached to see if we were interested in purchasing the colt given the initial sale had fallen through. We subsequently agreed to a reduced purchase price, via a private sale of £25,000, which we think represents good value and a fair market price for the horse, and he joins our 2025 2yo roster.

Obviously, he’s a half-brother to our very own DEAR MY FRIEND - he ran in The Epsom Derby for us and is currently rated 114 on the AW, with a peak Racing Post rating of 119. He’s not the only high-class horse the mare DUSTY RED has produced - she’s also thrown the 101-rated Pink Carnation and the 95-rated Red Force One.

He’s a very strong, good moving colt indeed as you can see, and he really caught our eye at the sales. By any other sire than Expert Eye, who seems to have fallen from grace/fashion, and we’re pretty sure he’d have made double or treble what he did through the ring. Perhaps you should forgive him his sire, but there’s little to forgive about his dam’s line, nor his physique. Obviously, we have had to factor in, now, that he’s a weaver, but we’d suggest his physique and his lineage assert that he represents outstanding value for money at his respective price.

He qualifies for the Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes where EDDIE'S BOY finished a fantastic third in 2022, and the Tattersalls October Auction Stakes, which we won this year with our The Dragon King.

Read the full Racing Post article here: The Dragon King rules the Rowley Mile.  The latter will be run over 7f from next year, Tattersalls have added an extra furlong to the race. Which could suit this colt by Expert Eye just fine.
