Ventura Tormenta Maintains our Storming Richard Hannon Stats
Sun 05 Jul 2020
Our 28th Winner of the year: VENTURA TORMENTA, trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by Pat Dobbs. The British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes over 6f at Yarmouth.
Richard has always liked this colt from what he has seen at home and we gave him a challenging debut in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot over 5 furlongs. He ran with great credit to take 6th and yesterday on his second start, he raced over 6 furlongs. Pat Dobbs had said to us that "I would go anywhere to ride him!" so he made the trip to Yarmouth and it was certainly worth it.
Ventura Tormenta jumped well from the stalls, with his ears pricked and immediately was at the head of the field. Pat looked comfortable as they skipped along on the good to firm turf, with those ears of his still pricked! As Pat saw a challenge coming on his outer, he shook the reins inside the final furlong and got the effective response. He went clear by 1 1/4 lengths, with Pat coasting him home, under hands and heels to win 'readily'.
His breeder Kevin Blake was thrilled:
After the race, Pat said in his At The Races interview that he appreciated the quick ground and that he's a nice colt to look forward to for the rest of the season. He also mentioned that he was still a little green, so he would have learned a lot from the race.
Syndicate manager Tim Palin says: "The son of Acclamation was by far and away, our most expensive Richard Hannon yearling purchase of 2019 at £95,000 from Goffs UK, but he looks worth every penny of the faith we had in him at the time, along with Peter and Ross Doyle. Congratulation to all his owners, he looks so exciting!"
