Ventura Flame wins at Carlisle and is our 58th of the year.
Wed 14 Aug 2019
From our five runners yesterday, we had a winner, two 2nd places and two 3rd places - Beechwood James (Richard Hannon), was trying 2 miles for the first time and ran a corker at Lingfield to take 2nd and Beechwood Jude (Keith Dalgleish), was just caught on the line at Carlisle.
Our winner, trained by Keith Dalgleish, was Ventura Flame. She is a daughter of Dandy Man, who we purchased at the Tattersalls Ireland Breeze -up sale in May. She has had 6 runs and finished 1st, 2nd twice, 3rd, 4th and was unplaced in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot - so you could say that she is giving her owners some fun already!
There was a bit of tactics to-and-froing before the race at Carlisle yesterday, about which rail we should come up, but we called it correctly and she won in nice style by over 3 lengths, to defy top weight on the testing 'heavy' ground.
It’s a tricky race to assess as to what mark she ran to given that most of the field came to the stand side, but she showed a good attitude as she was effectively racing on her own. The handicapper dropped her to 73 on Tuesday and she ran off 76 yesterday, so she would be running off 79 (73 + 6lb penalty) if we run her again before next Friday. Unfortunately there are no nurseries over 5 furlongs in the time scale though.
Keith reports that she’s fine this morning, so we and Keith will keep our eyes peeled for the right race for her next.
Well done to her owners on her win and to her jockey Joe Fanning on riding a treble!
