Star of Southwold shines at HQ

Declaring for any race at Newmarket's Craven meeting, you know the opposition is going to be tough! Having just his second career start at 3, Star of Southwold looked like he was up against it, as he was chalked up as the 28/1 outsider of the field. He did however, look a picture in the paddock and we thought that his debut run at Kempton had shown some promise, as he had run right through the line.

This field had some very well bred horses for some top ownership and training connections (including us!) Star Of Southwold traveled sweetly just behind the leader; striding out nicely and looked to be enjoying himself. We watched expecting the others to catch up, but suddenly realized that every other jockey was at work on their mounts and Sean, sat still, was bounding along.

Could he stay there? Would he get caught? Sean asked him to quicken just after the 2 furlong pole and he pulled away, to win by 3 1/4 lengths! There were scenes of jubilation amongst his owners as they collected in the famed winners enclosure and applauded 'Star' and Sean back.

You can see how happy they are in the photos above! Sarah was interviewed by Laura King from the Dubai Racing Channel, who kindly congratulated us on our continued success, which was a lovely touch.

His owners then enjoyed champagne in the Royal Box and watched the replay over and over, just so his victory could sink in! Our son of LE HAVRE has a bright future and his owners patience has been rewarded. Well done to them all.
