Nothing Steady, about Eddie!

WINNER 34 OF 2022: EDDIE'S BOY, trained by Archie Watson and ridden by Hollie Doyle: 'The British EBF Restricted Novice Stakes' over 5f at Southwell.
Always a nervous time, when a 2yo is at a racecourse for the first time. With a colt, you hope that they will behave themselves and not get distracted and sometimes, the closeness of spectators around the parade ring can set them off. But Eddie's Boy, a son of Havana Grey was as good as gold. He even won the best turned out prize, so well done to the Archie Watson team at the track.
He was a little keen, going down to the start, but had attracted a fair amount of support, making him favourite and Simon Mapletoft, the on course Sky Sports Racing presenter, had him as his pick. So our nerves were hightened as he was lead into the stalls!
A little slow to gather pace at the start, Hollie woke him up in the first few strides and he soon remembered how to gallop. Close up, he was going best of the field over 2f out, moving to the lead, but edging to the right as he did so. Hollie had to keep her wits about her as he ran green and wandered around, but she guided him to stay straight and just pushed him out inside the final furlong, always doing enough, to win ears pricked.

Timeform rated it as t80+ performance saying: "Made plenty of appeal on pedigree and made a promising start to career having been strong in the betting, scoring with more in hand than the bare margin suggests, very green; close up, travelled fluently, pushed along 2f out, led over 1f out, ran green, wandered, won readily; sure to progress.”
Holly said in her Sky Sports Racing interview: "He's a lovely horse and has plenty of natural speed. He had a look around once he hit the front, but he's a typical 2yo, with plenty of speed.”
He was the Racing Post 'Star Performer' on the card. "Star performer: Eddie's Boy (1.55)Eddie's Boy holds some notable entries and appears to have a bright future." Syndicate manager Tom says: "He was clearly still very green which is brilliant as he’s managed to do that with raw ability and will only improve more as he learns about the game. He was by no means fully extended in the race and obviously the chopping and changing and checking of momentum as he rolled around meant that he again, wasn’t seen to the upper limit of his ability. He’s a very fast horse and has bags of boot and that raw pace is going to be a potent force going forward. Well done to his owners - they have a nice horse on their hands!”
Havana Grey has already made an impression so early in the season, so of course we are delighted to have purchased two breezers by him recently! You can see their details and share prices here.
