Nolt-On The Up
Sun 19 Mar 2023
WINNER 15 OF 2023: NOLTON CROSS, trained by Hugo Palmer and ridden by Trevor Whelan: The feature Class 3 'Top Odds Every Day With BetUK Handicap' over 1m 4f at Wolverhampton.
Second over course and distance 12 days ago, he lined up under top weight and was second in the betting. Not the best draw in 7 of 8, but they set off at a slow pace, so Trevor was able to get him across without too much effort. He tracked the leader in second, on the outer until the pace began to increase. Coming around the home bend, Trevor sent him for home and he kept on strongly. Having time to look over his shoulder, he pulled clear entering the final furlong and under hands and heels, won comfortably by 3 and a 1/4 lengths.
"Nolton Cross and Trevor Whelan have put this race to bed in some style." Watch the full race replay here: https://www.attheraces.com/racecard/Wolverhampton/18-March-2023/1900
Timeform rated it as a career best t100 performance, commenting: "Produced a career best to resume winning ways under a good ride, his style ideally made for this type of contest around here; prominent, led 2f out, quickened clear home turn, edged left 1f out, unchallenged, had the run of the race."
The Racing Post made him their 'Star performer' of the meeting: 'Nolton Cross (7.00) was well placed to land the feature race of the night.'

Syndicate manager Tom says: "Congratulaions to his owners on his fourth win - to pull away like that under hands and heels in the feature race, was a good watch. His form this year, reads 1,1,2,1 and with the career best performance last night, there's no stopping him! Hugo and I will get our heads together to see what we can target, but with his ascending profile, you can see him in some nice Saturday races. Well done to Hugo and his Manor House Stables team and thank you to Trevor for a good ride."
Nolton Cross was winner 10 of the year and took us over £200k and last evening, he became winner 15 and took us over £300k!
