How Impressive Was That?
Thu 27 Jan 2022
WINNER 7 OF 2022: HOW IMPRESSIVE, trained by Hugo Palmer and ridden by Ross Coakley: The 'Play Coral Racing-Super-Series For Free Novice Stakes ' at Newcastle, over 7f.
The flashy son of Starspangledbanner was having his first start - always a nervous time and had made the journey north to do so. You could forgive his tentative start, as he edged right and was a little slowly away. Ross held up in the rear as he was a little keen and then switched him left at the 4f pole. Making headway and travelling well 2f out, he moved into the lead over and ran on well inside thefinal furlong to win 'comfortably' by 2 and a 1/4 lengths.
"How Impressive has come there on the bridle and it's going to be a winning debut." Watch the race replay here: https://www.attheraces.com/racecard/Newcastle/20-January-2022/1830

Timeform gave him a performance rating of t80+ and say: "Made a promising start to career, overcoming greenness to get off the mark in good style; awkward leaving stalls, held up, travelled well, good headway over 2f out, stayed on to lead final 1f, comfortably; sure to progress."
Syndicate manager Tom says: "He certainly lived up to his name there yesterday evening, steadily away but came cantering past the entire field in a couple of hundred meters and put the race to bed in a few strides. A very striking visual performance indeed. You could see that he was still a very green horse, but such was his superiority he took himself to the head of affairs and actually got there too soon but he toughed it out well once he got there and he will have learnt plenty from doing that. You could see that he has plenty of natural speed and a good cruising speed. I’m delighted for his owners. He looks like a horse who’s sure to provide us plenty of fun over the coming months and beyond. Well done to Hugo and the team at home and I hope his owners enjoyed their celebratory champagne – congratulations everyone."
