Flying Fillies at the Finish!
Fri 04 Jun 2021
WINNER 33 OF 2021: VENTURA FLAME, trained by Keith Dalgleish and ridden by Callum Rodriguez: The 'Follow Us on Twitter @Hamiltonparkrc Handicap ' over 5f at Hamilton.
Callum gets on well with her, having won three times over 5f on the daughter of Dandy Man. He settled her in midfield, as two of the field shot off in front by a fair way. He kept his cool and waited until the 2 pole to give her a nudge. Making headway into the final furlong, he pulled her to the outside of the field and with her ears pinned back in determined fashion, she went on to lead towards the finish, taking the race by a neck (see her winning line photo in the gallery)

Timeform gave her a race rating of 81 and say: "...is a reliable operator at this level and notched her second success of the season; soon steadied, progress over 1f out, stayed on to lead final 100 yds, suited by the way the race developed."
Syndicate manager Mike says: "What a tough filly she is, as we've thrown plenty at her over the last 4 or 5 weeks but she still came out fighting for us. A good ride from Callum, as the two in front that strode on were going too quickly and he just gave her more circumspect ride to allow her to finish her race off. It ended up that her and the horse that finished 2nd were on the right fractions. We'll see what the handicapper does on Tuesday and make a plan from there."
She is such a likeable filly and is giving her owners some great days, running every couple of weeks and picking up prize money from her consistency. Her last 6 runs read: 1st, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 4th and 1st, which was her fifth win yesterday! There's just ONE share available in Ventura Flame! WINNER 34 OF 2021: VENTURA VISION, trained by Mark Johnston and ridden by Franny Norton: The 'tote.co.uk Now Never Beaten by Sp Fillies' Handicap' over 7f at Chelmsford.
It's always good to hear the race day track presenters say how well one of your horses looks in the paddock. Ventura Vision was picked out as looking very well in her coat and Mark's horses are always certainly beautifully turned out.
She had a good draw in 1, but was a little slow into stride and couldn't hold the inside line, so Franny took what was given and kept her in behind. Coming around the bend at the 2 furlong pole he got to work and she began to make up ground. He needed to pull her out to ensure he had room and she ran on really well inside the final furlong, going on to lead towards finish and win the race by a head. As she crossed the line the commentary was: "That was a really tough finish, a good performance a nice ride by Franny." A 2nd course and distance win from the daughter of No Nay Never.

In his Racing TV post race interview, Franny said: "We have always thought quite a bit of her at home. She won here 1st time out and has been running okay since. She took a few paces to find her stride and get into a rhythm and I had to fight my corner as well as getting kick-back. She was getting that too and showed a good attitude to face it and I always knew I would get there!"
Timeform gave her a career best race rating of p73 and say: : "....bounced back to best to come out on top back on all-weather; mid-field, headway over 3f out, ridden 2f out, challenged final 1f, stayed on to lead close home."
Syndicate manager Mike says: "A good ride from Franny as he rode her to go forward from her good draw but he was happy that she was on the right fractions and let those drawn wide, who were trying negate their draws, stride on. It got a bit tight late on but he delivered her perfectly to pick up the fading leader late on. Congratulations to both sets of owners on their fillies winning for them again and super to notch up a double on the day!"
