Fiveandtwenty is the Racing Post 'Star Performer' as she wins at Ripon.
Wed 15 Jul 2020
Our 29th Winner of the year: FIVEANDTWENTY, trained by Mark Johnston and ridden by Franny Norton. The Ure Bank Fillies' Handicap, over 1m4f at Ripon.
Two 2nd places, two 3rd places and a 4th from our runners since Sunday, with some just losing out in a photo finish - so even nicer that this filly won last night! What a great run by the daughter of Farhh, showing a really game attitude, as she stepped up in trip for her first start of the year.
Franny was riding her for the first time and the pair soon led, travelling nicely. At the 3f pole, she was headed, but when Franny asked her for an extra effort, she rallied to lead again 1f out and kept on really well. Watch the finish here:
The Racing Post made her the 'Star performer' at the Ripon meeting, saying: "Fiveandtwenty (8.15) had the run of the race but showed the right attitude in rallying after being headed."
Franny said in his post race interview: "She showed a really good attitude after she was headed and did everything correctly for me. A game filly."
Her syndicate manager Mike, when reviewing the race for her owners, said: "Well, we were absolutely delighted with that win. She was a little free in the early stages but Franny settled her nicely in a good rhythm. When she was headed 3f out I thought her fitness was just coming to haunt her but she got a second wind and battled on gamely and was strong through the line. You wouldn’t rule out going further with her either as she finished her race strongly. We'll see what the handicapper does, but I already have a race in mind for her next run. Congratulations to her owners!"
