Dewey Road Wins 'Going Away'
Thu 08 Oct 2020
OUR 57th WINNER OF 2020: DEWEY ROAD, trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by Pat Dobbs: 'The Unibet New Instant Roulette Nursery Handicap' over 6f at Kempton.
Having his fourth start, our son of No Nay Never had taken two 2nd places - one by a nose - in his previous runs and just before the gates opened, Nick Luck mentioned that he had a chance back on the AW, as the soft ground of his previous run at Windsor had not suited. Nick was indeed correct!
Although he dwelt at the start from his wide draw, Pat switched him right towards the rail and held him up in last. He looked to settle nicely though and his lovely long stride could be seen as they rounded the bend from the side on shot. He made up natural ground on the field without being asked too much and Pat guided him to the outer before asking him to quicken at the 2 pole. He made good headway on the outer, passing horses and when urged, he kept on strongly inside the final furlong, then led towards the finish and "won going away" as The Racing Post commented.

In his post race interview with Nick on Racing TV, Pat said: "He has always shown a lot of ability. He is a strong colt and he's starting to grow up mentally which is important, as physically he is already there. They went quick and he settled lovely, as he has been a bit keen in his other runs - coming from the breeze ups that can be the case. I thought I was a bit far off, but he showed his ability and won nicely."
