Another 2-year-old Winner!
Wed 11 May 2022
WINNER 39 OF 2022: BRAVE EMPEROR, trained by Archie Watson and ridden by Hollie Doyle: 'The Cazoo Restricted Maiden Stakes' over 5f at Chepstow.
Our imposing son of Sioux Nation, was the 'paddock pick' by the commentary team at Chepstow and was chalked up as favourite. Slowly into stride at the break, he ended up in rear as they scorched along up front. Hollie let him find his feet but by the 2-pole he was 5/6 lengths adrift. She asked him for an effort and despite being unbalanced, he made headway and ran on well to lead inside the final furlong; keeping on well to win by 1/2 a length. The Racing Post remarking in their race review "promising." Could he be Royal Ascot bound?
"Brave Emperor, from an unpromising position, wears down Espirito." Watch the full race replay here: https://www.attheraces.com/racecard/Chepstow/10-May-2022/1450
Timeform said: "Well backed, was still green but improved to make it second time lucky, the strong gallop helping him get into it from off the pace; dwelt, raced off the pace, good headway entering final 1f, stayed on to lead final 100 yds, driven out; he'll stay 6f and is likely to progress further.”
Hollie said in her Sky Sports Racing interview: "They went very quick and on drying, undulating ground, with his exhuberant action, he took a while to settle into the race, but he has done it nicely and will benefit from a bit further. Mentally and physically there's more to come too. His ability has prevailed - he was the best horse in the race.”
Syndicate manager Tom says: "Hats off to Archie - that is now both our 2 year-olds with him to win this season - the other being Eddie's Boy, who did it on debut. In fact, these two colts are by the two leading first crop sires - Havana Grey and Sioux Nation, so our bloodstock team (myself included!) are pleased so far, with our juvenile cohort.
Archie was delighted with that performance, in that he managed to win despite doing a lot wrong! They went too fast on the front end and it left him with a lot to do, but he showed his class to tear through the field and win like that. He is a big, strong, good looking colt and he can only improve from this, especially upped in trip to 6/7 furlongs. Well done to his owners, it was lovely to see them celebrating at Chepstow and the gentleman who named him was able to be there too, so extra special for him to see him called home the winner. Bigger targets clearly await this exciting colt. A trip to Royal Ascot could easily be in the cards, if he continues to progress as he seems to be."
Our next winner will be number 40 for the year, so we are scorching ahead. Prize money could pass £600,000 tomorrow too, as we head to four different tracks around the country, across both codes, including a runner at the York Dante Festival.”
