Belter by Name, Belter by Nature ?
Considered sufficiently talented to be highly recommended, by connections, to ace bloodstock agent Anthony Bromley of Highflyer, to adorn the famous ‘double green’ silks of Simon Munir and Isaac Suede(for whom Anthony acts as principal agent), this £85,000 purchase could easily be destined for many a high-class Festival or Saturday handicap and perhaps, even, Graded hurdles and chases to come. Unfortunately for Anthony Bromley, his double green connections have just pressed the ‘pause’ button on new purchases for a short period of time, such is the embarrassment of riches they have, already, at their disposal - a cohort containing numerous Grade 1 & Grade 2 individuals to go to war with, both sides of the Irish Sea. The Stuart Crawford connection has proven a happy hunting group for Anthony, Isaac & Simon, in recent times - producing several household names.
When assessing all 33 National Hunt recruits, at the recent Cheltenham January Sale, Anthony’s ‘Nap’ was this fabulously sized, great moving, just turned 5yo gelding from the Stuart Crawford academy. As a youngster, in the Spring he’d finished 4th in just about the hottest maiden P2P of the entire Irish P2P season, with the form working out unbelievably well, despite LARGY BELTER not settling anywhere nearly as well, in the contest, as connections had thought, hence, meaning he would just fail to get home, fully, over the extended 3m trip. Given the summer to mature, he headed to a Fairyhouse bumper, under rules proper this time, at the turn of the year 2024/2025 - New Year’s Day, in fact - where, still running green and very much learning on the job, he reeled in, all opponents bar the winner, many from several of the top yards in Ireland giving way, only, to a horse who’d gained, ‘first run’ on the rest of the field. Largy Belter was awarded an initial RPR of 105 for that performance, a fairly lofty one for a bumper - it’s a rating that denotes it was a pretty strong event.
Of course, being a very, very sizeable horse, and still only just turned 5yo, a 2m bumper was never going to bring all his assets to the fore - obstacles and further will enable him to demonstrate his physical prowess and talents, in due course. The sky should be the limit!
Dan Skelton is, almost certainly, destined to become Champion Trainer, in the very foreseeable future. He was rather unluckily denied, late on, for the 2023/2024 title - so where better to send this stunner? Dan and his team are so very adept at both targeting and winning BIG Saturday & Festival handicaps and Graded races, whatever the time of day, month, or year.
Rest assured, LARGY BELTER, is in, arguably, the very best hands possible to manage & maximise his talent and future achievements.
The Plan
Listen to Dan on Largy Belter below:
He’s all ready to rock ‘n’ roll, having shown his stunning potential in his seasonal debut at Fairyhouse on New Year’s Day. You can transpose his Fairyhouse bumper form to pretty much any National Hunt Flat race, at pretty much any National Hunt track this side of the Irish Sea, and fully expect him to take a great deal of beating indeed. That could be as early as February and, were that to go particularly well, it could take us to something a little loftier in the bumper sphere, before this season is out.

Then, come September 2025 onwards, following a Summer break, we’ll head over hurdles, and fences eventually. Young National Hunt horses essentially have 3 careers, across the 3 jumps’ disciplines and this fantastic specimen of a horse should continue to progress, as he moves from discipline to discipline.

As exciting a National Hunt ownership opportunity as you could think of.
