Helshaw Grange sits in the unspoilt countryside of rural North Shropshire with the historic county towns of Shrewsbury, Chester and Stafford lying within easy reach. With 27 tracks within a 2-hour radius it is the ideal location for accessible and affordable racing. Helshaw Grange provides state of the art facilities in a tranquil environment, the perfect recipe for a successful racing yard.
Dave and his wife Sarah set up training in early 2016. Originally based in North Yorkshire, Dave and Sarah moved down to Helshaw Grange later that year to allow for further expansion and the business has gone from strength to strength ever since.
They have enjoyed an extremely successful start to training with improving results year upon year. But success is not only measured in results but in continually producing the best out of every horse in our care which is something that continues to be achieved here at Dave Loughnane Racing.
Dave has had a love and passion for horses for as long as he can remember. With no background in racing, he started off working for a small trainer back home in Galway, at the age of 13. He spent a number of years working there at weekends, summer holidays and often when he should have been at school! This was where his aspiration to become a trainer began.
Dave travelled to Australia in his early twenties where he spent 5 years working for a number of different trainers such as Bart and Anthony Cummings in Sydney, Paul Messara and a short time with Darley in Melbourne. Whilst in Australia, Dave also spent time working at Oaklands Stud and running a breaking and pre-training yard just outside Brisbane.
Dave met his wife Sarah while in Australia and moved back to the UK in 2013. Here he spent a season with Daniel Mark Loughnane, John Quinn and finally with Tom Dascombe before taking out his own trainer’s license. Whilst completing his trainer’s modules Dave was lucky enough to spend some time with Sir Mark Prescott, Stuart Williams and David Elsworth.
Based at Helshaw Grange, Dave is proving that with a brilliant team behind him he is more than capable of competing at every level in racing, whilst ensuring that every horse in the yard gets the attention it deserves and is trained to suit its individual needs.
