We plan to add to our National Hunt string this week, at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale
Sun 25 Jun 2017
With 449 black-type winners in the last ten years, it's no surprise that the Derby Sale catalogue is the most anticipated catalogue by the National Hunt Bloodstock Sales industry. It is packed with an outstanding collection of 460 meticulously selected National Hunt juveniles, boasting enviable pedigrees.
We have purchased 5 of our current jumps team from this prestigious sale: CAPTAIN WOODIE, DIVINE SPEAR and PREMIER BOND all won last season for Champion trainer Nicky Henderson, also taking their owners to the Cheltenham Festival and big Saturday race meetings in the process. Last year we added the exciting pair of DU DESTIN and HERO'S CREEK (Ben Pauling) from the sale and who will both debut this season.
It was our best jumps season ever last year. Just take a look at these statistics from the winning Seven Barrows string:
24 runners - 15 won or were placed 2nd or 3rd (63%)
Our National Hunt manager Tom Palin says: "When I first went to the Derby sale in 2013, I came away with our first two horses, which were placed with Mr Henderson. Towering, who cost just €20k, went on to win at Cheltenham and gave his owners some memorable days. The other is Premier Bond, who last season just jumped and traveled for fun and came 3rd in the Kim Muir at The Festival; a day myself and his syndicate will never forget! I am heading to Ireland this week to continue with the successful formula, of working with the leading National Hunt bloodstock agents Highflyer. We will be viewing hundreds of horses at the beginning of the week, to ensure that our shortlist only contains the quality we require."
The Derby Sale takes place on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 June, with Part II on Friday 30 June. The sale starts at 10.30am each day and you can watch it live via this link: http://db.tattersalls.ie/4DCGI/Sale/Live?site=FH
If you would like to become one of our National Hunt owners, do get in touch with Tom or any member of the team and we'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.
