Pretty Sweet Gets Her Just Deserts
Mon 13 Sep 2021
WINNER 81 OF 2021: PRETTY SWEET, trained by George Boughey and ridden by Tom Marquand: 'The Cazoo Maiden Stakes' over 1m 3.5f at Bath.
This was Pretty Sweet's second start for us, having been purchased at the Tattersalls HIT Sale in July. She made her debut prior to the sale, over this course and distance, placing 2nd. On her first start in our silks last time out, she was 2nd once again, this time at Windsor.
So, with two solid 2nd places to her name she lined up back at Bath, with Tom Marquand in the saddle. She was a little keen, but close up on the outer, tracking the leader. She began her challenge 2f from home; ridden to take the lead inside the final furlong, she stayed on gamely, winning by 1 1/2 lengths.

Timeform rated it as an 83 performance, saying: "Didn't need to improve to get off the mark after just 5 days off, doing what was required in a muddling event, probably better still to come in a more truly-run affair; prominent, raced freely, led over 1f out, stayed on.”
After the race, Tom told us: "That was pretty straightforward and she has done it nicely enough. She gave everything that I asked of her, so really pleased.”

Syndicate manager Mike says: "It was good to see her settle better and to take the race yesterday - her owners are very pleased. Satisfying also, that following Bookmark's win on Friday, both fillies that we purchased at the Tattersalls July Sale, have now won. A good day all round results wise for the team and we look forward to an exciting week at the Ayr Gold Cup meeting, where we have enjoyed 2 winners each year since 2018!”
