Go Chique - Another of our 'store horse' purchases to win on debut!
Fri 04 Sep 2020
Our 46th Winner of the year: GO CHIQUE trained by Nicky Henderson and ridden by Nico de Boinville: 'The Southwell Racecourse Supports The Bramley Newspaper Mares' Standard Open NH Flat Race', over 2 miles at Southwell.
It's both an exciting and a nervous time when a horse makes its debut. Especially so, when you remember buying them as youngsters at the sales and have hopes and dreams that they might take to their training regime, stay sound and go on to fulfil their potential on the racecourse.
So, as our 4 year old Crillon filly GO CHIQUE lined up at the start at Southwell yesterday, we watched in nervous anticipation, as did the 6 owners who were at the track. She was chalked up as favourite, but with the field containing previous winners and placed horses, as well as other unraced mares, our hopes were pinned on Nico in the saddle and Go Chique enjoying herself over the next 2 miles!
Nico had her settled midfield on the inner and she slowly began to make up ground to track the leaders. She went second from 2f out when Nico asked her for an effort. She responded well to go on to lead over 1f out; quickening away nicely to win by 2 1/4 lengths.

Timeform were impressed, giving her a rating of 93+ quoting:"Made a successful debut in good style, looking even more superior for most of the latter stages, only inexperience preventing her opening right up; in touch, loomed up straight, went on under 2f out, ridden when ran green soon after, asserted final 100 yds."
Syndicate manager Tom Palin says: "Well, the perfect start to ones racing career. She travelled with ultimate ease in a competitive race, full of running and when Nico pressed the button, she put the race to bed. She was a little green when she hit the front Nico said, but she will improve both mentally and physically for the experience. She has come out of the race well this morning and with her having schooled well at home, we have some nice options for her next start. Well done to her owners."
August this year saw us looking for our next set of National Hunt winners at the sales here and in Ireland. We purchased fellow Seven Barrows inmates El Kaldoun, Listed winner Marie's Rock and Father John from these 2018 and 2019 NH 'Store Sales' - they all came out and won on debut, like Go Chique has done, so our team's efforts to find the right horses have paid dividends!
