WINNER 70 OF 2023: BRAVE EMPEROR trained by Archie Watson and ridden by Luke Morris: The Group 3 'Prix Daphnis' over 1m at Deauville.
Carrying a 3lb winners' penalty for his Group 3 success in Germany, this race was over a slightly shorter distance and on very soft, which he hadn't encountered before.
He broke well and chased the leading pair. Shaken up at the 2-pole, Luke took him across to the rail as he swept past the leaders, to be in front by almost 2 lengths. He ran on well to deny a late challenger in the final furlong; holding on gamely, to win by 3/4 of a length.
This was his fourth win of the year, after winning a Group 3 in Germany, a Listed race in France and a Conditions race at Kempton.

Timeform rated it as a career best 109 performance, saying: "Stepped back down in trip, put up his best effort on his fourth outing outside Britain this year; chased leaders, took strong hold, headway under 2f out, shaken up and quickened to lead under 2f out, edged right, ridden and kept on well.”
