Sun 30 Jun 2024
Winner 45 of 2024: Bobby Bennu, trained by Roger Varian and ridden by Silvestre de Sousa. 'Born to Mix Absolut Vodka Novice Stakes' over 7 1/2f at Chester.
After a very promising start to his career, beginning of June at Kempton where he finished second, Bobby Bennu was sent off favourite on his turf debut.
He broke smart and was quickly into stride to take the lead and was able to dictate the race from the front. He kicked clear when turning for home and won impressively by 7 lengths with plenty in hand.

Silvestre told us after his win: “He has done well to get out as quick as he did and dominate from the front – he has great ability and enjoyed the 7f around Chester. A nice performance – very well done to his owners.”
Wonderful scenes at Chester after the race:
Time Form rated this performance with a 91, saying: "Built on debut promise to get off the mark by a wide margin over this slightly longer trip; made all, quickened clear home turn, had plenty in hand; well bred and will go on improving."
A delighted Roger Varian this morning: "Congratulations on the victory of Bobby Bennu at Chester yesterday afternoon, we were delighted to see him win and it was great to see so many of the syndicate's members there to welcome him into the winner's enclosure. He seems to have a fair level of ability and a good attitude to go with it. Well done again."

Syndicate Manager Tim Palin says: "Very well done to his owners ! We had to be patient with him, but Bobby Bennu did very well over the winter and keeps improving. He has shown a good level of ability today, and justified favourtism to bolt up by 7 lengths. Delighted for Roger and his team at home who have done a great job with him. Well done everyone."
