Royal Ascot & The Cheltenham Festival, here we come - hopefully!
A 140,000gns Horses in Training purchase at the end of 2024.
Gelded and on just light duties since we bought him in October, with the notion of affording him a break, we’re building him up for a racecourse debut in March for us. He’s schooled up really well over hurdles and the plan is to run over hurdles first time up. That will give us a decent steer on whether he’s likely to make up into a Grade 1 Hurdler or a Saturday/Festival handicap hurdler/chaser - and we’ll act accordingly.
However, his main target for 2025 is the Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, a race that Ian Williams has won twice in the last 6 years - and all roads lead to the Berkshire venue - medium term.
Furthermore, staying races at the Goodwood festival and the Cesarewitch are likely to feature too on the Flat.
Long-term - Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals 2026 feature on the horizon, as do races like the Chester Cup and Northumberland Plate.
He’s just the perfect, high-class, dual-purpose prospect for the seasons to come - he ought to take his owners on a very exciting journey, indeed.
Training Update: TRUE LEGEND has taken his castration really well and is back to his normal routine, which means daily canters, and Ian is really happy with how he has settled into the yard. He is very professional, and we are currently looking to start him off hurdling towards the end of February / early March, before bringing him back to race on the flat, in preparation for the Ascot Stakes. Exciting Times ahead.
