We Raise a 'Toast' to Howzer Black!
Wed 16 Dec 2020
WINNER 74 OF 2020: HOWZER BLACK, trained by Keith Dalgleish and ridden by Shane Gray in 'The Betway Handicap' over 1m 11/2f at Wolverhampton.
Named after one of the characters from the hugely popular series Toast Of London, the actor who played him Robert Bathurst duly tweeted a response to his fourth win yesterday!
Drawn on the outside in 8, was not a great position to be in, but Shane did a superb job of getting him across to be prominent, without using too much petrol. He moved across to lead, setting good fractions and kicked on 2f out, keeping on well in the straight to see off any challengers and was never troubled, winning by 1 1/4 lengths.

Syndicate manager Mike says: "Well done to his owners on his win last night. The race panned out how we thought it might beforehand and the lack of pace in the race was the perfect set up for him. I thought Shane gave him a good ride in rather than revving him up to get to the front, he took the whole length of the straight to get there and then set even fractions throughout which meant he was the best positioned horse in the race and it was good to see Howzer pull out a bit more in that final furlong. Timeform rate it as a joint career best 85 and he continues in good heart - hats off to Keith and the team."
Thank you to Shane for the canny ride and congratulations to his owners, who were delighted! He has given them some fun, with four wins and being in the winners' enclosure 19 times.
