Ustath Takes To Southwell!
Wed 04 Nov 2020
OUR 63rd WINNER OF 2020: USTATH trained by Roger Fell and ridden by Tyler Heard (-7): 'The Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap' over 5f at Southwell.
Drawn on the far side in stall 1, this was Ustath's first try on the fibresand at Southwell. He broke well and sat just in behind the leaders, making good headway over 2f out to challenge. Tyler got to work and the pair went on to lead inside the final furlong, being challenged strongly by the favourite, but he kept on well to win by a neck. We think we can conclude that he liked the underfoot conditions!

In his post race interview with Sky Sports Racing, Tyler, who is an apprentice jockey at Richard Hughes Racing said: "I just bounced him out, he jumped out fast and travelled great. I was told to keep him out of the kickback, so that helped. It's great to get the win. I am getting some good riding opportunities and being based at Richards, he is great to learn from." Well done Tyler!
Congratulations to his owners and thank you to Roger and his team. It was lovely to see him get his head in front.
Earlier on the card we saw ALEX GRACIE take 3rd and KATELLI, later in the evening at Newcastle was the Racing Post 'Eyecatcher' on the card. They recorded "Katelli (7.45) made good late headway and should prove a different proposition once handicapping."
At Exeter GET THE APPEAL was travelling sweetly to challenge for the lead in the 2m 51/2f hurdle, when she knuckled on landing and came down. We can report that thankfully she and Harry Cobden are both fine. It was a fine day for Paul and the Ditcheat team with a four timer on the card!
We are just £15,000 of prize money away from earning £800,000 this year, with some good chances coming up for the rest of the week under both codes. See our entries and declarations here: https://www.middlehamparkracing.net/entries.htm. You will also notice two very exciting early closing entries for next year, with THANK YOU NEXT entered in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and THE ROSSTAFARIAN, in the Irish 2,000 Guineas!
We were pleased to hear from the BHA that during lockdown, owners will still be able to go racing to support their horses-a welcome boost during November and how lucky are we that our beloved sport will continue to entertain us over the next through weeks.
Stay safe and well everyone. Team MPR.
