Turf Season Performance Review

The 24th March saw the start of the turf flat season and yesterday, saw the final meeting of the year at Doncaster, where we saw Cold Stare put in a great performance to take 2nd in the Class 2 handicap. We've taken a look at our stats today, to see how our horses performed on the turf this season and these are the headline makers!

Total Turf Winners = 67 (of our current total of 85).

Key Turf Wins: RAYMOND TUSK - The Group 2 Gran Premio del Jockey Club, Milan and the Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton. MARIE'S DIAMOND - The Group 3 Anglesey Stakes at The Curragh. BOITRON - The Listed Denford Stakes at Newbury. BURNT SUGAR - The Class 2 Bunbury Cup at Newmarket and the Class 2 Gigaset International Stakes at Ascot. WAARIF - Three Class 2 handicaps, including the historic Carlisle Bell heritage handicap (in course record time!) TIMOSHENKO - The Class 2 Archerfield Cup (which brought up his five-timer). TIGRE DU TERRE - The Class 2 Coral Challenge at Sandown. VENTURA KNIGHT - The Class 2 Almada handicap at Hamilton. See the full list of winners here: http://www.middlehamparkracing.net/record.htm

'Black Type': We also saw MARIE'S DIAMOND finish 2nd in the Group 2 Railway Stakes AND the Group 2 Richmond Stakes, RAYMOND TUSK 2nd in the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer, NAADIRR place 3rd in the Group 3 Premio Tudini (and on the same day at the Rome track, DARK ACCLAIM was 4th in the Group 2 Derby Italiano). MISS BAR BEACH earned yet more black type, by taking 3rd in the Listed Eternal Stakes AND 3rd in the Listed Flying Fillies Stakes, VENTURA KNIGHT was also 3rd in the Listed Pomfret Stakes. We must also mention the two 4th places earned in Group 1 races in the space of 10 days, by Marie's Diamond and Boitron, as well as the experience of having runners at The Breeders' Cup, Royal Ascot, in the St Leger and on Arc day, it has been a super turf season all round.

Multiple Winning Horses: TIMOSHENKO 5 wins, WAARIF 4 wins, BOITRON, MARIE'S DIAMOND, RAYMOND TUSK and VENTURA KNIGHT all won three times with 10 horses won twice: BURNT SUGAR, DALSHAND, ENCHANTED LINDA, ICE COLD IN ALEX, MILITIA, NINETYTHREETWENTY, RIGHT ACTION, TIGRE DU TERRE, VENTURA GOLD and YOUSINI.

Leading Trainers: RICHARD HANNON 16 winners, RICHARD FAHEY 13 winners, DAVID O'MEARA 8 winners, MARK JOHNSTON and KEITH DALGLEISH both on 6 and also, incredibly our SIR MARK PRESCOTT horses won all six of their races on the turf!

Leading Jockeys: Silvestre De Sousa = 11, Paul Hanagan and Luke Morris = 5 and apprentice Conor McGovern won 4; all on Waarif!

Thank you to our horses, their trainers, jockeys and the stable staff who look after them all so well for a super turf season. We look forward to being back at Doncaster again in March at our box with owners, for the season launch.

Our attention though also remains on preparing our stars of the 2019 turf season. With Winter holidays on the agenda for many of our 2 and 3 year olds; our yearlings, will continue to learn their trade over Christmas and their regimes begin to gain momentum in the new year. Stable visits allow their owners (and prospective owners) to see them growing in confidence and the dreaming begins.....
