Storming Home on the Knavesmire!

WINNER 46 OF 2021: OUTRUN THE STORM, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Billy Garritty : 'The William Hill Extra Place Races Apprentice Handicap' over 7f at York.

Always super for owners to have their horses running at festival meetings and at the John Smiths Cup Festival Friday, we had 5 runners on the card.

Ventura Diamond ran with great credit to take 5th in the Group 3 Summer Stakes after completely missing the break, having been sat waiting in the stalls. The Racing Post summed it up well: "Dwelt start, in rear towards near side, niggled along when detached 3f out, pushed along and switched right 2f out, steady headway under 2f out, ridden and kept on strongly from over 1f out." Then Silky Wilkie made his debut in the 2yo novice and placed a very good 2nd, only beaten by a filly with race experience - one to watch next time out! The tough and very popular Howzer Black was having his 50th start in a competitive handicap and took 4th - he has finished in the winners enclosure now on 29 occasions and won 5 times and is just one of those syndicate horses you love. Then, we came to the final race on the card and Outrun The Storm.......

He took a keen hold, but Billy quickly showed him who is in charge and held him together towards the rear until he got into a rhythm. He then asked him to start to make up ground and found himself a bit short of room, so he switched to the near side at the 2f pole and owners started to sit up. He rallied strongly to take the lead in the final furlong, to win going away, by 1 1/4 lengths, as the Racing TV presenter commented that it was "pretty cosy!"

Timeform awarded him with a career best rating of 85 and say: "Proved better than ever to win for the second time in handicap, at his best when coming through off a strong pace; held up, pushed along before halfway, headway from 2f out, led inside final 1f, driven out; he's lightly enough raced to think he'd be of interest again under similar circumstances."

Syndicate manager Tom says: "Congratulations to his owners on their win on The Knavesmire; that's not an easy track to have a winner. I thought Billy gave him great ride, as he settled him and then brought him to make his move 2f out and he came with a real charge. It was a similar performance that he put in at the Ayr Western meeting when he won there and watching it you were always confident that he would get to the front. That's 5 times he has finished in the winners enclosure from his 7 runs, so he has plenty of talent. We will see what the handicapper does and then look for another race for him. Well done to Richard and the Musley Bank team and thanks to Billy for his shrewd ride."

There were some super owner posts on social media yesterday evening too, which is wonderful-some having their first winner at York. We must thank the team at the track too for their generous badge allocations and looking after them so well. We particularly liked the sound track he walked back in to......

We have added 10% of shares in Outrun The Storm, so if you would like to be there for his next run, here's your chance! See the details here: OUTRUN THE STORM SHARES
