WINNER 8 OF 2023: STEPNEY CAUSEWAY, trained by Milton Harris and ridden by Stephen Hellyn: 'The Credit Suisse - GP Von Celerina' over 1,900m at St Moritz, Switzerland.

After our dual success with MORDRED at last years meeting, Milton sent 3 of our horses over this year. A glamourous and beautiful scenic location is set for the next 3 weekends of racing, with the first day yesterday.
Flag starts were used rather than the nornal starting stalls and this caused a few false starts. VENTURA TORMENTA lined up in the first - a sprint and after 3 aborted starts, he set off behind everyone else and we thought that was his chance over, but he stayed on really well to take 3rd. He will race again next Sunday.
STEPNEY CAUSEWAY was originally going to be in a 'Skikjöring' race (with a skier behind the horse) but this was changed to a normal flat race due to the conditions not being suitable. The horses raced in different silks as a result. So we were cheering on brown silks with yellow sleeves for a change! The cheering helped, as he took the race in fine style, under Stephen Hellyn, which you can see here (although WHR had it titled as the original Skikjöring and distance, in their social post below):
There was plenty of social media using #StMoritzDiaries and everyone looked to have a fantastic time. Our owners are booked to head out again next weekend and the following weekend for the big race of the meeting.
Syndicate manager Tim says: "Well done to his owners and to Milton, who loves this meeting! He appears on the winners podium more than any other trainer it seems and his team do a super job taking the horses over and looking after them in their warm and cosy stables. I thought Ventura Tormenta was unlucky to be left at the start and had a lot to do at the end, managing to take 3rd. Stepney showed his stamina to pull away in the finish and we can't wait to see him line up in the CHF100,000 Group 2 Final in a fortnight’s time. What a fantastic purchase for just under £25,000, as now he must be amongst the favourites in the line up.”
