Saturday's six runners all finish in the winners enclosure
Sun 17 Jun 2018
Not a bad day results wise from our six runners yesterday: A 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 4th, and 4th, PLUS £30,084 of prize money scooped up too!
MARIE'S DIAMOND is our 31st winner this year and saw celebrations galore for the owners of our Mark Johnston trained colt at Chester. There was a super turnout of owners and their guests who you can see in the gallery collecting their trophy and champagne with Franny Norton. He gave Marie's Diamond a superb front running ride from a wide draw which saw him win for a second time, earn a £10,000 ‘Plus 10 Bonus’ AND win best turned out! Well done to them and thank you to Mark's team for a super job. He will head next to the Group 2 Railway Stakes at The Curragh-a race we have previously won with Kool Kompany.
There was also a lovely 3rd place in the race from VENTURA BAY, who took another step forward and may well now be seen over 7f. (See the Racing Post review of the race in the gallery.)
TIGRE DU TERRE went to Maisons-Laffitte for the feature 1m Conditions race, the Prix Mendez and we were wary of the Andre Fabre trained Godolphin horse who was favourite. Gregory Benoist got him to the fore and travelling beautifully, kicking for home from the bend. He pulled clear and looked the surefire winner until just before the line when Cascadian caught him 50 yds out. They pulled 8 lengths clear from the 3rd horse and there was 1/2 length in it. A very good run once again from the son of Le Havre, which meant his owners earned the extra French Owners Premiums on top of his 2nd place prize money.
WAARIF ran yet another cracker to take 2nd at York under Shane Gray. The David O'Meara trained gelding continues to run with credit this year with form figures of 235242. Next time!
