No Dwelling, for Clarendon House

Wed 02 Jun 2021

WINNER 32 OF 2021: CLARENDON HOUSE, trained by Robert Cowell and ridden by Ray Dawson (-3): The 'Visit attheraces.com/marketmovers Maiden Stakes' over 5f at Yarmouth.

Purchased at last years Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up sale, Clarendon House has tried the patience of a fair few people it's fair to say with his exuberant ways at home. It was a nervous wait in the run up to the race yesterday as he saw a racecourse for the first time and with it, the sights and sounds (nice to have those back isn't it?!) Ray Dawson took the ride, as he was familiar with him at home and knew his tendency to be free, so keeping him to a brief walk around the paddock and then taking him down early, was a great start.

A little slowly away (oh the irony!) he then remembered his penchant for racing freely and did so, but he was going easily as he moved to lead 2f out. Ray looked to be in control and gave him a shake of the reins and he kept on strongly in the final furlong, to win going away by 4 3/4 lengths.

The Sky Sports Racing team were impressed, saying: "A lot to like," "a smart debut" and "a cracking effort."

In his post race interview with Jason Weaver, Ray said: "He's very keen but once I dropped my hands and let him roll way he's shown his class and he's got an engine! He took a blow after the race, so will come on for that."

Timeform gave him a race rating of 89 and reported: ".. he looked a useful prospect in making a winning start in good style; close up, took strong hold, led over 2f out, quickened clear over 1f out, won readily; he looks a keen-goer and may prove best kept to 5f but is certainly open to improvement."

Syndicate manager Tim says: "Many congratulations to the owners of Clarendon House on your impressive victory. A syndicate that has shown tremendous patience and a team that also deserves a lot of gratitude - Robert, Ray and work rider Graham Carson who has put a lot of work into calming Clarendon House at home gets a lot of the credit. We have intervened in a number of ways with this colt and everybody deserves their day in the sun. It looks like there could be more to come too. We'll look to keep him at 5f on fast ground for his next start. Wonderful to have two winners on consecutive days - here's to more champagne moments for our owners this week!"
