Motawaafeq is our 75th winner of the year!
Sat 19 Dec 2020
WINNER 75 OF 2020: MOTAWAAFEQ, trained by Mick Appleby and ridden by Alistair Rawlinson in 'The Bombardier Handicap' over 1m at Southwell.
Drawn in 7 in an outside stall and dwelling at the off, wasn't the ideal start! However, Alistair didn't panic and managed to slowly get him into the race and tucked in to track the leaders. He travelled nicely and went into 2nd at the 4 pole, as others began to come off the bridle. Coming off the bend he moved into 2nd and had a dual with our old friend De Bruyne Horse, but he kept on strongly, pulling away. Getting a little lonely out in front, he saw off a closing challenger, to give Mick Appleby his across the card treble.

Simon Mapletoft, the Sky Sports Racing reporter, selected him before the off and said as he crossed the line: "He looked really well in the paddock and his win maintains the super form of Mick Appleby at the top of the All-Weather trainers championship. Well done to connections."
Syndicate manager Tim says: "We were hoping that gelding him in the summer could be the making of him. I think we understand him better than we did, and he understands what’s required of him too, these days. Hopefully, it’s onwards and upwards from here and I am really pleased for his owners, many of whom took to social media to share their delight! I’m surprised to see that there’s still a few shares available in him on the site. Without making any promises, he could just be our next ‘Ustath’ and bring up a treble!
It's also wonderful to bring up 75 winners in what has been a testing year for the racing family. Everyone loves owning a winner and we thank our trainers and their teams for helping us bring 75 winners trophies home for our owners."
