Howzer Black - The Toast of Haydock!
Mon 08 Jun 2020
Winner 19 of the year - HOWZER BLACK, trained by Keith Dalgleish and ridden by Callum Rodriguez, at Haydock, in the 1m 2f Handicap.
Named after one of the characters from the hugely popular series Toast Of London, the actor who played him responded to his win yesterday!
Callum took the view at the start that the field went off fast and settled Howzer at the rear of the field, bowling along nicely with his lovely long stride. He really started to make headway 3f out, working his way through the pack. The others began to tire after their exertions and he went on to lead at the 1f pole, fending off the challenge on his outer from the other horse, who had also ignored the earlier strong pace. Callum drove him to the line and he kept on well to win by 13/4 lengths.
Syndicate manager Mike summed it up in his post race tweet:

Thank you to Callum for the canny ride and well done Keith and the Belstane team.
Congratulations to his owners who were delighted!
A great way to cap a first week back racing for #TeamMPR, with three winners, two 2nd places and a 3rd. With Marie's Diamond in 'sparkling' form to win the Listed Paradise Stakes at Newmarket. Well done to the whole team!
