Great Uncle
Sat 06 Jul 2024
Winner 48 of 2024. Uncle Don, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Oisin Orr. ‘Topmark Solutions National EV Bay-Marking Specialist EBF Maiden Stakes’ over 5f at Beverley.
He was the eyecatcher in the paddock before the race and after his promising debut run, where he finished 2nd, he went off 7/2 second favourite. Drawn widest bar one from 12 runners, Oisin managed to get across and settled Uncle Don towards the rear. He made easy progress 2furlongs from home and led inside the final furlong before he went clear and was stretching away past the post in the style of a very useful horse.
‘Uncle Don it is, by 2 lengths at the line.’ Watch the full race replay here: https://www.racingtv.com/watch/replays/2024-07-06/beverley/1415
Timeform rated his performance with a 81p, saying: Was much improved from debut despite being easy to back, seeming suited by the emphasis on stamina dropped in trip, never stronger than at the line; mid-division, pushed along 2f out, good progress out wide approaching final 1f, stayed on to lead last 1/2f, driven clear under hands and heels riding; from a family which the yards knows very well and looks sure to win more races.
There was no post race interview on Racing TV, but Oisin told us after the race: "I was hoping he would win in good style after his very encouraging debut run. He was going away from the field with such ease and hit the line hard. I thought it was a very good performance, well done to his owners - he looks an exciting horse."
A very delighted Syndicates Manager Tom Palin: "Delighted to build on his promising debut, and putting a very impressive perfomance under an only hands and heels ride from Oisin. I loved the way he hit the line hard, suggesting he should be versatile trip wise and we hope this could be the start of very exciting things to come."
