Got To Love A Winner
Sun 23 Apr 2023
WINNER 25 OF 2023: GOT TO LOVE A GREY, trained by Karl Burke and ridden by Sam James: The 'British Racing Supports Stephen Lawrence Day Restricted Novice Stakes' over 5f at Nottingham.
Making her debut, she was very relaxed in the paddock and took everything in her stride, including going into the stalls. Drawn on the wing, they set off at a pair pace, but she was still prominent on the outer. She joined the leader at halfway and as the rest came off the bridle, she was still going well at the 2-pole. Taking the lead, she quickened up nicely inside the final furlong, only needing to be pushed out as she pulled clear, giving Sam time to look around, winning by an impressive by 6 lengths.
"Look at this! Got To Love A Grey wins impressively on debut." Watch the full race replay here: https://www.racingtv.com/videos/watch/horse_racing_replays/439820-british-racing-supports-stephen-lawrence-day-restricted-novice-stakes-5
Timeform rated it as an '88+' performance, commenting: "Made plenty of appeal on paper and looked potentially useful as she justified market confidence in style; prominent, upsides over 2f out, went on over 1f out, drew clear, impressive; will improve and looks the type who'll be well up to holding her own at a higher level."
The Racing Post made her their 'Star performer' on the card: 'Got To Love A Grey (6.00) won easily on her debut and looks useful.'
Sam was interviewed after the race, on Racing TV, as was Tom Palin who was there, along with Karl:
In Tom's interview, he said: "We bought her privately from Aguiar Bloodstock and she was very well educated. Karl and the team have been impressed with her at home and he has schooled her to be a real professional here. Another fast filly, that he does so well with. We came here with some confidence and she is an above average filly. The Platinum Queen was the flat star for us last year and it's great that 2/3rds of the owners in this filly were in TPQ - it looks like they have another nice one!"
Syndicate manager Mike says: "Well done to her owners, Karl and his team. That was a smart performance, on debut. We are all delighted - she also picked up a £5,000 GBB Bonus, which I think might have been spent in post race celebrations! I will discuss options with Karl for her and set out a plan.
She was our 3rd 2 year-old to run and after Ziggy's Phoenix winning earlier this week, that's 2 from 3. It was a good day at the office, with Cold Stare taking 2nd at Thirsk and Revich a good 3rd in the Class 2 Spring Mile at Newbury. We finished the day passing £600,000 of prize money won for the year - ahead of 2022, so we head into the next breeze up sale in grand form!"
We now head to the Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale tomorrow , so do join out mailing list to hear of any new purchases: MPR MAILING LIST
