Our first runner, is our first winner of 2021!
FIVEANDTWENTY, trained by Donald McCain and ridden by Brian Hughes: 'The Betway First Foot Juvenile Hurdle (Qualifier)' over 1m 71/2f, at Musselburgh.
On her official fourth birthday, she returned to the course and distance of her win on December 7th, with Champion Brian Hughes back in the saddle, but this time with the winners' penalty to carry. She set off in customary fashion to lead, setting a steady pace, but bowling along, about 2 lengths ahead of the field. One by one, they began to make jumping errors or come off the bridle behind her and coming to the second last, Brian asked her to quicken. She gave a customary swift jump to maintain the 2 length advantage and he pushed her out to the line.

Our daughter of Farhh was our winning-most horse in 2020 (with 4 wins) and has now won five of her twelve starts. She remains unbeaten over hurdles and looks to be going places in this sphere, so it's hats off to Donald McCain and his team. It was a fine day for Donald as he notched up a treble at the track! Here he is talking to Racing TV, after our fillys' win, with his thoughts on a potential race plan for her:

National Hunt manager Tom Palin says: "What a great way to bring in the New Year! We knew going into the race it was a deeper cohort and she had the penalty to defy. She jumped well, with just a couple where she got in a bit close and Brian felt the ground was just on the soft side for her and he wanted to save a bit for the finish if needed. We have a couple of Listed races in mind for her next; one at Doncaster and also back on trials day at Musselburgh. We'll see how she is and watch the ground, but for the time being we'll revell in the fact that we have a smart filly on our hands! Congratulations to her owners on another win."
