Fabulous Fahey Friday!
Sat 22 Jul 2023
WINNER 65 OF 2023: ZIGGY'S CONDOR, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Ryan Sexton (-3): The 'Used Stock for Quick Delivery Northern Commercials EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (Qualifier)' over 6f at Pontefract.
Always a nervous time when a 2 year-old makes their debut and after a brief bit of 'over excitement' he went down to the start fine. Breaking smartly and travelling strongly, he disputed the lead. Although it wasn't long before he made excellent headway to lead outright at the 2f marker. Two lengths clear entering the final furlong, under hands and heels, he extended his advantage inside the final furlong, to win readily by 3 lengths.

Timeform rated it as an 82 debut performance, saying: "Made some appeal on paper and looked a good prospect as he made a winning start; pressed leader, went with zest, led 2f out, shaken up over 1f out, edged right, went clear final 1f; sure to progress and win more races.”
Richard's assistant trainer Robin O'Ryan was in attendenance and was interviewed by Racing TV after the race. He said: "He did it well, travelled and picked up. He's a horse that is uncomplicated and good to see him win like he did.”
WINNER 66 OF 2023: OUTRUN THE STORM, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Callum Hutchinson (-3): The 'Pertemps Medical Mental Health Handicap ' over 7f at Newmarket.
Breaking a little slower than most of the field, he was soon at the front taking a keen hold, a few lengths clear. Pressed inside the final furlong, he ran on well and held on, to win by a head.

Timeform rated it as a joint career best 84, saying: "Has dropped in the weights this year, and having showed a bit more last time, bounced back to best in this lesser grade to resume winning ways; led, went with zest, pushed along over 2f out, closed down inside final 1f, just held on.”
Callum said in his Racing TV interview: "Mr Fahey asked me to get the horse to relax and although he broke a little slow, he was keen to get to the front. When he did, he dropped the bridle and got in a nice rhythm. When the other horse came to our quarters he found a bit more."
Syndicate manager of both horses, Tom says: "Wow, Ziggy's Condor didn't half impress on his debut. He jumped, travelled and put the race to bed in fine style, going away at the line. He's in the Goffs UK Harry Beeby Premier Yearling Stakes (we bought him as a yearling from the sale) which of course we won last year with Shouldvebeenaring. He's 1 from 1, will have learned plenty there yesterday and his owners have a nice horse on their hands.
I thought Callum gave Outrun The Storm a peach of a ride. It all came together there perfectly - a race which we have had in mind for about 2 months and fair play to the horse, he battled well in the finish. He's a dude, taking a 5th win!
Well done to both sets of owners and to Richard and the Musley Bank team on their treble. I am there with 100 or so owners tomorrow to see their horses, so perfect timing.”
