Winner 51 of 2024: THE COFFEE POD, trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by Tom Marquand. ‘Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Handicap’ over 5f at York.
The Coffee Pod, beautifully turned out in the paddock beforehand, returned once again to York, where he recorded his first win about 10 months ago. He broke well from stall 1, and travelled strongly under Tom Marquand, what allowed him to position himself nicely midfield, just behind the leading group.
He was very game and challenged his rivals 2f from home. Once he hit the front, he was always doing enough to win convincingly.

Timeform rated his decisive win with an 87, saying: “Has been edging down the weights and got back on the up returned to the venue of his sole juvenile success, Tom Marquand taking over in the saddle from 3-lb claimer; in touch, headway over 1f out, led final 1f, kept on; he's settling better nowadays, which ought to enable him to get a touch of consistency back in his game.
A very complimentary Tom after the race: “The race worked out beautifully, the horses drawn beside us, pinged the gates, which means we were able to a get a nice toe into the race behind the leading group, and I was able to let him find his rhythm and leave him alone for the first part of the race. He picked up nicely, and I probably hit the front a little too soon, but he was very game, stayed on strongly and yes very much ideal circumstances how the race planned out. He did everything right and seems to come on mentally too. I thought this was a very good performance, so well done to all of his owners.”

Syndicate Manager Tim says: "Huge well done everyone ! The Coffee Pod obviously has a great liking for York, and we saw what we were hoping for over 5f, he showed us great enthusiasm and travelled strongly under a brilliant Tom Marquand. I thought he gave him a great ride. Got him settled nicely early in the race and well positioned throughout the race. This was a good performance from him, he was very game in the final furlong and always did enough to hold on."
