Double Delight at Chelmsford!
Wed 12 Feb 2020
Challenging, blustery conditions for horses, stable staff and owners alike at Chelmsford yesterday! However, we went there with three runners and came away with two wins from Double Martini and Prince Of Eagles, plus a 2nd place from Watheer – so not a bad afternoons work; even if a few hats did disappear onto the A131!
DOUBLE MARTINI (Roger Fell) - 1m Class 5 Handicap, ridden by James Sullivan.
A second win of the year, for the son of Mastercraftsman, of which the Racing Post described the manner in which he did it, as “readily.”
Syndicate manager Mike Prince said: "A good ride from Jimmy, I thought. He was just taken off his feet a little in the first couple of furlongs so he switched him over to the rail to go the shortest way round and he then just angled him out when he felt that he was starting to travel well and then avoided making the cardinal sin of going too wide on the bend and he saw his race out well. He’s a horse that tries, which is half the battle and there’s no reason why he can’t win again. We’ll see what the handicapper does next week and give him a bit of time, because he puts plenty into his races."

PRINCE OF EAGLES (David Lanigan) - 1m 2f Class 5, ridden by Shane Kelly.
Quite a year so far, for our two David Lanigan trained 3yo colts! Four races contested, three won and one 4th place, courtesy of Longsider and Prince Of Eagles.
The son of Free Eagle was making his handicap debut, having won last time out at Lingfield over the mile. A step up in trip this time, in line with his pedigree.
Syndicate manager Tom Palin says: “That was a cool ride by Shane Kelly, as he sat him handily, but nicely sheltered from the strong winds. Turning in, Adam Kirby went for home on the 2nd placed horse and when Shane asked Prince Of Eagles to respond, he did just that, cruising up on the outside and did enough, as Shane pushed him out towards the finish. Timeform have him with a rating of 86p at present. We will see what the handicapper does on Tuesday and then make a plan for his next race. He is a colt who is learning the game with every run and has so far not disappointed.”

Well done to both sets of owners. Great to have 10 winners on the board this year, which is double where we were at this point in 2019. See an interview with the Racing Post in the gallery, along with some images taken at the track yesterday.
