Clarendon House Remains Unbeaten
Sun 13 Jun 2021
WINNER 37 OF 2021: CLARENDON HOUSE, trained by Robert Cowell and ridden by Luke Morris: 'The British EBF Novice Stakes' over 5f at Bath.
Having won on debut at Yarmouth on June 1st, he lined up, once again over the minimum 5f, this time with Luke Morris in the saddle and carrying a 6lb penalty. He was taken down early and steadily to conserve the building energy and seemed nice and quiet at the start, with Luke getting off briefly to reduce the weight.
Breaking on terms he took a keen hold, as he does, moving on to the lead after 1f. He faced a challenge on his inner, so Luke asked him for more and and he kept on strongly, pulling clear from over 1f out and was easily pushed out for a 9 length victory. Luke even gave one of his 'over the shoulder' glances, as he did when riding YAGAN to his third victory for us last week!

Robert told The Racing Post: "He's a lovely big horse, but a little bit of a handful to train. He's difficult and headstrong, so he has one rider who rides him all the time, and luckily has some strong arms on him. I'm constantly playing mental games with the horse to make sure he's still in the same frame of mind after each race, but he's won nicely and we think that he's a horse that could climb the ranks quickly – he's very talented." Timeform gave him a race rating of 100 (welcome to our '100Club') and reported: "..maintained unbeaten record; led, raced freely, tackled 2f out, drew clear 1f out, comfortably; open to further improvement."
Syndicate manager Tim says: "Many congratulations to the owners of Clarendon House on your second impressive victory and thank you to Bath for looking owners so well. It looks like there could be more to come from and Robert seems to have the upper hand on him, which has got him to being 2 from 2 so far, so all credit to the team at home."
