BURNT SUGAR blazes through the field to win The Bunbury Cup at Newmarket
Sun 15 Jul 2018
There's nothing quite like winning two valuable Class 2 handicaps during Festival race-days and on ITV Racing, two Saturdays in a row!
Before the Bunbury Cup, Oli Bell had picked Burnt Sugar as his selection on The Opening Show and his price gradually reduced from having been 20/1 the evening before, to 7/1 at post time. We were worried that the going might be too firm for him, but Newmarket had done a superb job with watering the track and we have to say, Paul Hanagan rode the most perfect race for Burnt Sugar to show what he can do! Many congratulations to his owners and hats off to ROGER FELL and to Paul for a great ride, to take the £74,000 first prize. Since we purchased Burnt Sugar at the Tattersalls H-I-T sale, he has won two major prize pots, the other being €88,500 for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF "Sovereign Path" Premier Handicap at Leopardstown on Champions weekend, providing his owners with not only superb Festival days out wins but three times what we paid for him! Roger's training regime has brought Burnt Sugar into a lucrative vein of form and Roger is making a name for himself since taking out a licence in his own name. Read today's Racing Post article in the gallery to the right-it might make you laugh!
This week at Tattersalls, we bought DOMMERSEN and he has arrived safely with his new trainer, yes, you guessed it, Roger Fell and is ready to go!
Shares are available now and you can view his full details here: http://www.middlehamparkracing.net/horses/view,new-purchase-dommersen-by-dutch-art_204.htm
Last evening at Hamilton, WOODSIDE WONDER brought up a double on the day! He deserved his win as he has been 2nd in his last two starts and it was a lovely ride from Rowan Scott, for Keith Dalgleish.
As we paid only £20k for the son of Camacho from the Goffs Premier Sale, he will now head to the Super Sprint at Newbury next Saturday. Well done to his owners.
Today is a rest day after 6 winners in the last week, so here’s an MPR 2018 stat’ update:
43 winners
13 races won by 2 year olds
and £637,128k of race prize money won.
We and our owners are very grateful to all our trainers, their hard working teams and the jockeys who have won for us 🏆
So 2018 has been a scorcher in more ways than one for MPR so far!
