WINNER 23 OF 2024: OUTRUN THE STORM, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Billy Garritty: The 'quinnbet.com Handicap' over 7f at Newcastle.

Having his first start of the year, after a 166 day break, he was back at Newcastle, where he has previously won over 6f.

Given a hearty bump from his middle stall at the start, it took him a few strides to recover his equilibrium, but he was on the front by the end of the first furlong. Tracking across to the rail, he faced a challenge inside the final furlong and was briefly headed. But he wasn't having any of that and rallied to regain the lead on the line very gamely, to win by a short head.

Timeform rated it as a t82 performance, saying: "Had slipped to the same mark that he'd defied last season and resumed winning ways in determined fashion after 6 months off; made running, went with enthusiasm, joined over 1f out, edged ahead again near line.”

Billy said in his Sky Sports Racing interview: "Jack, my brother has done a brilliant job with him at home, as he can be very keen and Mr Fahey had him ready. He's probably the toughest horse I have ever ridden, as he'll pull out all the stops for you."
