A Record Breaking Queen!
Thu 28 Jul 2022
WINNER 84 OF 2022: THE PLATINUM QUEEN, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Oisin Orr: 'The British EBF Alice Keppel Fillies' Conditions Stakes' over 5f at The Qatar Goodwood Festival.
She impressed last time out at York, when winning the 5f Class 2, by 3 and 3/4 lengths, which wasn't missed by the market, as she was the favourite for the Conditions race.
She shot out of the stalls and led them going a good pace. Oisin gave her a nudge at just over 1 furlong from the line and she went clear against the near rail, pulling away, to win readily by 4 lengths.
"She's really quick! The Platinum Queen pulls away." Watch the full race replay here: https://www.racingtv.com/videos/watch/horse_racing_replays/402351-british-ebf-alice-keppel-fillies-conditions-stakes-2
Some of the quotes from the ITV Racing team, included "That was a high class performance" and "Explosive!"
Timeform rated it as a career best 104, saying: "Has found her stride on her last 2 starts, using her speed to very good effect on tracks that favour it, outclassing her rivals here, though the time giving plenty of substance to her performance, suggesting she'd have made a big impact had she run in the Molecomb instead, the Roses Stakes at York a suitable target; made all, went with zest, in command soon after halfway, shaken up approaching final 1f, kept on well, well on top finish.”
Here's Oisin, in his Racing TV interview, after the race:
Richard Fahey was quoted as saying in The Sporting Life: "I was thrilled with The Platinum Queen's win at Goodwood. She'd impressed at York the time before after things had gone wrong at Royal Ascot for her and she's quick, very quick. We've always known she can gallop. I see she ran a 10.01 furlong in the British EBF Alice Keppel Fillies' Conditions Stakes and that's the sort of speed she has, but what I also liked was how strong she was at the line, she ran right through it.
We had the discussion with her owners, Middleham Park Racing, about the Coolmore Nunthorpe on the morning of Wednesday's race - and those discussions will continue. It's £40,000 to supplement her so we won't rush - there's the Roses Stakes at the meeting too - but taking on the older horses is an option. It could be a cracking Nunthorpe this year - as it should be - but we'll see how she is and take our time."

Syndicate manager Tom says: "Well done to her owners - what a day we had yesterday! To see her lower the track record that was broken earlier in the Molecomb is pretty spectacular. For her development and future we had this race as the plan and if she did what she ended up doing, we would then look at the Listed Roses Stakes at York for her next. You will have read or watched myself and Richard quoting some options, but I have sent her owners an update this morning, with a few musings, so let's see...
I must thank Richard too, as he has done wonders with her. She's not small and has a future beyond her 2 year-old campaign - we are really excited about this filly and so there are fun times ahead.
Thank you to the Goodwood team for looking after our owners so well and to all the press for the interviews and positive comments that were made yesterday and indeed again today. We are syndicate managers whose job it is to buy, race and manage these horses to the best of their ability for our owners. Her syndicate have a very fast filly that has won 3 of her 4 starts; in fact Kevin Blake said today that he thinks she is the fastest 2yo he has seen this season, in Britain or in Ireland. Now that's top table ownership!
We had a great day and her owners got interviewed on TV, both before and after the race, which was fun!”
That's four years in a row that we have had a winner at the Qatar Goodwood Festival! MAGICAL WISH (2021), VENTURA DIAMOND (2020), TIMOSHENKO (2019) and in fact in 2018 we had a 2nd place in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes from Marie's Diamond.
