A Flying Finish!
Sun 01 Jan 2023
Our final runner of the year, is WINNER 125 of 2022: TYGER BAY, trained by Conrad Allen and ridden by William Carver (-3): One of the raceday feature races - 'The Huge Daily Boosts Only At Betuk Handicap' over 6f at Lingfield.
No pressure on our two runners in the race - our final contenders of 2022. Tyger Bay and Silky Wilkie were 13/2 and 11/1 in the market respectively. Silky, going up to 6f for the first time. Neither got a great start and were to the rear...
Silky had to take a wide path to come around the field and Tyger switched too, to come wide, with both making headway entering the final furlong. Both were ridden and ran on strongly, with Tyger Bay just taking the lead towards the finish in a tight photo with Silky Wilkie - prevailing by the shortest of margins; a nose! "It's a Middleham Park 1-2, which way will it go?!" Watch the full race replay here: https://www.attheraces.com/racecard/Lingfield/31-December-2022/1405
William said in his Sky Sports Racing interview: "I had no idea we had won! It's the first time I have ridden him and he is a bit of a legend. I was a bit further back than I ideally wanted to be but he came good up the straight and he's very game.”
Timeform rated it as a career best p90 performance, saying: "Produced a career best to follow up last month's win, now having won his last 3 outings at this track; held up, headway out wide final 1f, stayed on to lead close home; should remain competitive.”
In fact, Timeform awarded Silkly Wilkie with a career best performance also - so a superb way to end the year for both horses. Tyger Bay won 4 races this year and £35,354 whilst Silky Wilkie won 3 and was placed consistently, earning £51,257. Two wonderful syndicate horses for their owners.

Syndicate manager Tim says: "What a way to end the year, with our two runners on New Years Eve, taking the closest of finishes in a 1-2! Conrad has done so well with Tyger Bay for us this year, bringing home three times his purchase price in prize money. Of course all our stats revert to '0' on January 1st so we head into a new year on the back of a record breaking 2022, hoping for more of the same! Look out for our New Year newsletter on here, with a review of our 2022 performances. Wishing all our followers a Happy New Year. ”
