A Brilliant Beverley Treble!
Wed 15 Jun 2022
WINNER 61 OF 2022: DEAR MY FRIEND, trained by Charlie and Mark Johnston and ridden by Franny Norton: 'The EBF Restricted Novice Stakes' over 7.5f at Beverley.
An eye catching winner on debut over 6f at Carlisle, this wasn't missed by the market, who had him as favourite. He was going up in trip too for this, his second start and he had a penalty to carry. Disputing the lead in the first furlong, on the outer, his long stride took him to the front as they came to the bend. Still going easily 2f out, Franny pushed him out in the final furlong, taking two long looks over his shoulder for any challengers and he was eased when unchallenged, to win by an impressive 5 lengths.
Our 9th 2-year-old winner, from 11 to have made their debut.

Timeform rated it as a rather nice 92 performance, saying: "Built on the positive impression he'd made on debut with a smooth success upped in trip and under a penalty, this contest as good as over at the home turn and he looks bound to make his mark at a higher level; soon led, travelled fluently, drew clear from 2f out, just kept up to work; open to further improvement.”
Franny said in his Racing TV interview: "The step up in trip helped today. He had to give weight and has clearly improved again. There's more left under the bonnet and he's a lovely big horse. Whatever he does now is a bonus.”

Syndicate manager Mike says: "Well done to his owners on another win! He was far more streetwise in the early part of the race this time and Franny was able to settle him on the front end. He was always travelling well and it was clear that he was going best a long way from home. Franny waved his whip at him but didn't have to use it and he lengthened nicely in the final furlong. He's by no means the finished article yet and he looks the type to make up in to a better 3yo and he looks a smart prospect."
WINNER 62 OF 2022: CLARENDON HOUSE, trained by Robert Cowell and ridden by Ray Dawson: The feature George Kilburn Memorial EBF Conditions Stakes' over 5f at Beverley.
Winning the 'best turned out' prize, the handsome colt, by Mehmas, was taken down early, as he usually is. It was quite simple in the end, as he broke the best and made all! He kept on really strongly inside the final furlong, with Ray, as Franny had done, having time to look over his shoulder, to win by 2 and a 1/2 lengths. His 5th career win.

The Racing Post made him their 'Star Performer' on the card: 'Star performer: Clarendon House (6.15) made all for a straightforward success in the feature.'
Timeform rated it as a career best 112, saying: "Well backed, made the most of what ended up a good opportunity down in grade, showing plenty of dash; made all, went with enthusiasm, driven 2f out, in command final 1f, ridden out; a return to a higher level probably on the cards now..”
Ray said in his Racing TV interview: "He can be slowly away, but got out quick today. He's learning every time he runs and he listened to me there today. On his day, he is a decent horse.”

WINNER 63 OF 2022: LUCKYBOYLOVELYWIFE, trained by Marco Botti and ridden by PJ McDonald: 'The Westwood Maiden Fillies' Stakes' over 7.5f at Beverley.
We took her down in trip for this race, but she ended up with the worst draw of all on the outer. She broke well though and PJ was able to take her across without needing to do too much. Leading, she was still going easily 3f out and when shaken up, increased the tempo in the final furlong. The favourite couldn't get to her and she was just ridden out inside the final furlong, also unchallenged (as all 3 winners were!) to win by 1 and a 1/4 lengths. Registering her first win, this was a lucrative one, as it included the £20,000 GBB Bonus!

Timeform rated it as a career best 82 performance, saying: "Showed improved form to get off the mark, seen to good effect under a sound-tactical ride down in trip; made running, travelled fluently, kicked on entering straight, in command entering final 1f, kept up to work.”

Syndicate manager of both these horses, Tim says: "We can't quite believe it..after a double on Monday, we achieve a treble on Tuesday! I was thrilled to be at Beverley last night with some very happy owners, celebrating their three wins. Congratulations to all of them. It was especially nice that the gentleman who named Luckyboylovelywife was there to see her win and earn the £20,000 bonus. We were caught in a post race embrace by the Beverley photographer..”
