A 24 Carat Win from Shouldvebeenaring
Fri 19 Aug 2022
WINNER 94 OF 2022: SHOULDVEBEENARING, trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by Sean Levey: 'The £250.000 Class 2, Goffs UK Harry Beeby Premier Yearling Stakes ' over 6f at York.
A winner on his second start last time out, he came here after 95 days off, lining up in the valuable 2 year-old race. His trainer Richard Hannon has a tremendous record in this race, so that contributed to the fact that he was chalked up as favourite perhaps!
He didn't break that well and ended up towards the rear, but Sean was patient, as others came off the bridle in front. There was quite a wall of horses in front of him and he had to switch right before the 2f marker, but then made good headway after finding a gap. He kept on really well on the outer and as the finishing line appoached, taking the lead in the final strides and winning by a head.
"Shouldvebeenaring, but a racehorse will do just fine!" said Nick Luck as he crossed the line. Watch the full race replay here: https://www.racingtv.com/videos/watch/horse_racing_replays/394830-goffs-uk-harry-beeby-premier-yearling-stakes-2
Cheering, tears, gratitude, plenty of smiling and a very happy group of owners waiting to welcome him into the winners' enclosure.
Sean said in his ITV Racing interview:

Timeform rated it as a career best 94+, saying: "Progressed again after 3 months off, looking well served by the run of the race, finding plenty to get up late on, the performance suggesting a future in big handicaps in time; raced off the pace, pushed along halfway, headway under 2f out, stayed on strongly inside final 1f, led close home; likely to progress further.”

Syndicate manager Tim says: "We’re so delighted to win the inaugural running of the Goffs UK Harry Beeby Premier Yearling Stakes. Each and every eulogy you read, or hear, of Harry Beeby, includes the word ‘Gentleman.’ An immaculate person, whose vision, is inspirational to us all.
You have to take your hat off to Richard Hannon for his record in this race - this was his 5th win: 2016 - Stormy Clouds, 2017 - Tangled, 2019 - Mums Tipple, 2020 - Happy Romance, 2022 - Shouldvebeenaring. Sean was a magician to get him up to win from where he was for most of the race. It takes a horse with tenacity though to respond to a jockey the way he did.
A big thank you to York for their generosity with badges, it was a great day. We thought that when EDDIE'S BOY won The Weatherbys Super Sprint a month ago, it would be hard to win another big 2-year-old 'sales race' but you've got to love these Havana Grey's!
We are looking forward to being back at the Goffs Complex next week, where we were this time last year, buying Shouldvebeenaring, with Peter and Ross Doyle! If we can replicate our 2021 yearling sales buying choices for next year's 2 year-olds, then we'll be delighted!”
